Right now, The Album App is optimized as a web app that you can add to your phone's home screen. So simple, so easy, so...there. Mobile app development (and getting said app into the App Store) is a whole other ball game. One which I eventually plan on tackling, but for now it's a web app, and is super-duper optimized to be a web app, it's not just another desktop site with a lazy wrapper to help grant it a sort of pitiful pseudo-life as a crude PWA like some kinda app-Frankenstein ("You mean Frankenstein's monster," yeah, yeah) while you stare daggers at the unresponsive elements on your screen as they stutter-scroll their way up and down beneath your rageful thumb and then you accidentally tap the wrong button because it loaded late and shifted everything else on the page out of its way and now you have to swipe back and try again but you got impatient and didn't wait for its slow load and so you tapped the same stupid button and then got fed up and threw your phone across the room. What were we talking about?
Yes! The Album App has a full-fledged desktop E X P E R I E N C E ✨ that complements the mobile web app. It's a bit of an "Anything you can do, I can do better" situation, except instead of "better" it's more like "basically the same except obviously different because I am a desktop/laptop and you are a phone and we offer very different user experiences and we're both special in our own way and our mothers love us very much."
The Album App started as a purely personal project. I got tired of flipping back and forth between the places I was storing my in-progress songs, the places I was writing the lyrics, and the places I was keeping notes and reference files/links for the whole album. ...And then having to cobble together a way to collaborate on all of that with my friend and, eventually, our producer. And so on, and so forth.
Then I shared it with my songwriter friends, because it seemed like it would be helpful for them, too. And—spoilers—it was! So I thought Maybe songwriters and musicians who aren't my friends would also find it helpful, and then there was a lot more work than I anticipated, and here we are. Now you're all caught up.
